CoComp Webinar Now Available: Preparing Insurers and TPAs for the Transition to CoComp

Topics included key features, transition timelines, training, support, and user access administration. New Body Part Codes for Permanent Partial Disability Awards
With EDI 3.1, the body code count increases to 82. This means you’ll have more options and can be more specific when reporting. These new codes will be used on the Final Admission and for electronic reporting. However, the calculations associated with scheduled ratings are not changing. A sheet with the new codes and their respective old codes is now available.
First Report of Injury/Notice of Contests
When a worker is injured or has an occupational disease that results in more than three days/shifts of lost time, permanent impairment, or death, the insurance carrier must file a First Report of Injury (FROI) with the DOWC within 10 days. The insurance carrier must file a position on a claim within 20 days of filing the FROI with the DOWC. If an insurance carrier decides to file a notice of contest, it must be filed electronically.
The DOWC uses the International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC) EDI Claims Release 3.1 for the First Report of Injury (FROI) and Subsequent Report of Injury (SROI), which is a standard format used by other states, insurance companies, third-party administrators, and self-insured employers. Verisk sends an acknowledgment to the reporting entity informing them that the reports were accepted and a Workers' Compensation Number (WC#) was assigned to the claim. Verisk also notifies the reporting entity if the submitted report requires data correction before it is considered properly filed with the DOWC.
There are three ways to electronically file a FROI. A signed Sender's Acceptance Form must be on file with the DOWC prior to utilizing any of the three options.
Any filings you submit will be posted overnight, and you can check the system the next day to receive acknowledgments. If a filing is rejected, you will receive an error message; you must resolve the error and resubmit. If an FROI is successfully filed, you will receive a WC#.
